Install Noviscan on Windows

Looking for your license or your data? See Your license and subscription and Protect and manage your data.

This page takes you from the installer to an open Noviscan with your account created, on a PC that has nothing on it yet.

Before you start: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (there is no Noviscan for macOS or Linux); administrator rights on this PC; a PC you can leave on if you want continuous monitoring. You don’t need a Secufor account.

Download the installer

Download the installer from the Noviscan page on the Secufor portal. The file carries a signature in the name of Secufor SAS, visible in its properties.

Install

  1. Double-click the installer file. <!-- IMG I1-01 : Windows warning when the installer opens -->
  2. Confirm the Windows prompt that asks for administrator rights.
  3. Follow the installer screens. The default folder is C:\Program Files\Noviscan. It holds only the software, not your data.
  4. On the options screen, check the ones you want. <!-- IMG I1-02 : the four options screen, all unchecked -->
  5. Finish, then let the installer start Noviscan.

All four options start out unchecked:

Option What it does
Create a desktop icon Adds an icon to your desktop.
Start Noviscan when you sign in Noviscan starts with Windows.
Prevent sleep and disk spin-down on AC power (a Windows setting; revert it from Settings if needed) The PC stops going to sleep while plugged in.
Allow Noviscan to access the Internet (updates and online licensing) — you can change this later in settings Allows everything Noviscan does over the Internet.

The fourth option also covers the download of the models without which Noviscan recognizes nobody; the details of what goes over the Internet are in What leaves your computer. If you leave it unchecked, Noviscan doesn’t look for updates, so you won’t hear about security fixes; for recognition, see Install the recognition models without Internet. The wizard asks the same question again. Give the same answer both times.

If the Microsoft WebView2 component is missing on your PC, the installer adds it by itself.

First launch

The first time Noviscan starts, a Windows window offers a location for your data, by default %LOCALAPPDATA%\Noviscan.

<!-- IMG I1-03 : data location window -->

  1. Click “Yes” to keep this location, or “No” to choose another.

The Welcome to Noviscan wizard opens next. You can’t skip it.

Go through the wizard

  1. Terms of use: read the agreement, then check I have read and accept the end-user license agreement. Until the box is checked, the Continue button stays gray. <!-- IMG I1-04 : terms of use, box unchecked, Continue button grayed out -->
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Locations: leave everything as it is and click Continue. Your data location is shown read-only. It’s the one you just chose.
  4. How do you want to use this device? ⚠️ There is no going back on this choice: the PC where you create an account becomes your Noviscan server and can no longer be paired to another server. For your first PC, click Create a new account. <!-- IMG I1-05 : the three ways to use the device -->
  5. Create the owner account: enter your email address and a password. The display name is optional. Click Create account. This account stays on this PC. A new Noviscan starts on the Free plan.
  6. Internet access: check Yes, allow Noviscan to connect to the Internet if you checked the fourth installer option. The box is unchecked by default. <!-- IMG I1-06 : Internet access screen -->
  7. Click Continue if the box is checked, or Finish if it is unchecked.
  8. Product improvement: this step appears only if you allowed Internet access. Check Yes, send anonymous data if you wish; it is unchecked by default. No image, name, or address is sent.
  9. Click Finish. Noviscan opens.

If you leave the box on the Internet access step unchecked, the cameras that go through the Internet (Ezviz, Nest) stay configured but monitor nothing. The notifications you set up yourself are not affected. You can change your mind in Settings, on the General tab, in the Internet access section. <!-- IMG V1-01 : sequence, from the last Continue to the open application -->

Check

The application opens on your account, with no error. If the message Recognition unavailable appears at the top of the screen, see Fix a problem and get help or, if this PC has no Internet, Install the recognition models without Internet.

Going further

  • Check where the file comes from. The installer is signed in the name of Secufor SAS. Right-click the installer, Properties, Digital Signatures tab. If the signature is missing or invalid, don’t run the file.
  • Use a second PC. At step 4, Pair this device links this PC to a Noviscan that is already installed, and I have a license file links it through your license. The pairing code (Pairing secret) appears on the first PC, in Settings, on the Security tab, with the Pair a device button.
  • Install a license later. Settings, License tab, Install a license section: see Your license and subscription.
  • Repair or uninstall. Run the installer again. It offers to repair the installation (your data is kept) or to uninstall Noviscan. To find out where your data lives, see Protect and manage your data.

If it does not work

  • The installer refuses to start. First check your Windows version: you need Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. If the problem persists, the file may be incomplete: download it again.
  • The installation stops on WebView2. Install that component from the Microsoft page the installer points to, then run the installer again.
  • Anything else: see Fix a problem and get help.

Install the recognition models without Internet

Noviscan does not ship with its two model files: it downloads them on first start, if Internet access is allowed. Without them, it opens but recognizes nobody. On a PC with no Internet, put them in place yourself.

  1. From a connected PC, download the two files published by the OpenCV project:
  2. Copy them to the Noviscan PC, into the data\models subfolder of your data folder, that is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Noviscan\data\models if you kept the default location. Create the models folder if it does not exist. Do not rename the files.
  3. Restart Noviscan. The Recognition unavailable message disappears: the files are in the right place.
