Générique Caméra IP ONVIF / RTSP

For any camera exposing an RTSP/ONVIF stream on the local network. Enter the IP address, port (554 by default) and the model-specific stream path (e.g. Hikvision /Streaming/Channels/101).

How to set it up

Before you start

  • A camera exposing an RTSP stream on your local network (most wired/PoE cameras; many battery WiFi models do NOT expose one).
  • RTSP/ONVIF ENABLED in the camera's interface: on many brands it is off by default.
  • A username and password the camera accepts — often a "camera account" distinct from the vendor cloud account.
  • The camera's local IP address, ideally FIXED (static lease on your router): a changing IP breaks the source at the next reboot.
  • The model-specific stream path: the one value no generic default can guess. Searching your brand in this catalogue usually gives the right default path.

Steps

  1. First search your BRAND or model in the catalogue: if it is there, the stream path and port are pre-filled and you can skip the next step.
  2. Otherwise pick "ONVIF / RTSP IP camera" and find the stream path in your model's documentation.
  3. Enter the IP address, the port (554 unless stated otherwise), the username and the password.
  4. Leave the transport on TCP: more reliable than UDP on a busy network (no torn frames).
  5. Save: the source tests the connection and reports any credential or path error straight away.

If something goes wrong

  • Connection refused on port 554: RTSP is most likely not enabled in the camera's interface.
  • Authentication refused although credentials look right: many brands require a "camera account" created in their app, distinct from the cloud account.
  • Stream opens then drops: try the SUB-STREAM (often a neighbouring path, subtype=1 or stream2). It is lighter and enough for analysis.
  • The source stops working after a power cut: the camera's IP changed. Reserve a fixed address for it on the router.
  • Torn or stuttering frames: check the transport is TCP, not UDP.
