Setup guide

Ubiquiti UniFi UniFi Protect cameras (RTSP via controller)

Special case: NO static RTSP path and no port 554. In UniFi Protect, enable RTSP per camera and per resolution (Camera → Settings → Advanced → RTSP), copy the generated URL "rtsp://<controller>:7447/<token>" and paste the <token> into the "stream path" field. Port 7447 (7441 for rtsps). Served by the controller (UDM/UNVR/Cloud Key), not the camera; no ONVIF.

How to set it up

Before you start

  • An active UniFi Protect controller (UDM, UNVR or Cloud Key) on the same network, with the camera already adopted.
  • Administrator access to the UniFi Protect interface to enable the camera's RTSP stream.
  • Noviscan and the controller on the same local network — the stream is served by the controller, never directly by the camera.

Steps

  1. In UniFi Protect, open the relevant camera → Settings → Advanced → RTSP, and enable the stream for the resolution you want.
  2. Copy the generated URL, shaped like rtsp://<controller>:7447/<token> (rtsps://<controller>:7441/<token> for the secure variant).
  3. In Noviscan's Sources screen, search for "UniFi Protect" and select the model: the form pre-fills the port (7447).
  4. Enter the CONTROLLER's IP address (not the camera's), then paste just the <token> into the "stream path" field.
  5. Save: the source tests the connection and reports any token or controller-access error straight away.

If something goes wrong

  • Camera address entered by mistake: the stream is NEVER served from the camera's IP, always from the controller — check it really is the UDM/UNVR/Cloud Key's IP.
  • Token expired or invalid after a controller update: go back to Settings → Advanced → RTSP and copy the newly generated URL.
  • No ONVIF stream possible here: UniFi Protect does not expose it, only the RTSP token mechanism described above works.
