How to set it up

Before you start

  • The camera account created during setup (VIGI app or the camera's web interface). TP-Link is explicit: these are "the username and password that you set for your camera", not your cloud TP-Link ID.
  • The camera's local IP address, ideally reserved on your router.
  • If you plan to use ONVIF rather than RTSP: the Open Network Video Interface enabled, under Settings > Network Settings > Advanced > ONVIF (default ONVIF port: 80).
  • TP-Link does not document the factory state (on or off) of RTSP and ONVIF: check rather than assume.

Steps

  1. In Noviscan's Sources screen, search for "VIGI": the form is pre-filled (port 554, path /stream1, TCP transport).
  2. Enter the camera's local IP address.
  3. Fill in the VIGI camera account credentials.
  4. Keep /stream1 for the high-quality stream; /stream2 gives the lighter low-quality sub-stream.
  5. Save: the source tests the connection.

If something goes wrong

  • Credentials refused: it is the CAMERA account (created in the VIGI app), not the cloud TP-Link ID.
  • Stream works but camera settings stay unreachable: that is normal and documented by TP-Link — over RTSP "the VIGI camera settings cannot be modified". Use ONVIF (Profile S/G/T) if you need to control the camera.
  • ONVIF does not answer: check that the Open Network Video Interface is enabled (Settings > Network Settings > Advanced > ONVIF) and that port 80 is reachable.
  • Nothing answers: the camera may sit behind a VIGI NVR, which then handles stream and recording — query the NVR rather than the camera.
  • ⚠️ TP-Link explains how to open port 554 on the router for access outside the local network. Do not do it: an RTSP stream exposed on the Internet is a public stream. Use a VPN.
