How to set it up

Before you start

  • RTSP enabled in the camera's web interface (System > Network > RTSP) — on by default on most recent models, but worth checking.
  • A dedicated user account created on the camera (avoid using the default administrator account for a permanent stream).
  • The camera's local IP address, ideally reserved on the router — or AXIS IP Utility / mDNS to find it.
  • The model number (M/P/Q + series) in case of model-specific stream options (multi-sensor, fisheye).

Steps

  1. In Noviscan's Sources screen, search for "Axis": the path /axis-media/media.amp and port 554 are pre-filled.
  2. Enter the IP, username and password of the camera account.
  3. For a specific resolution or stream profile, add the ?resolution=... or ?streamprofile=... parameters (VAPIX) to the path if the default does not suit.
  4. Leave the transport on TCP.
  5. Save: the source tests the connection.

If something goes wrong

  • Connection refused: RTSP may be disabled in network settings — check System > Network > RTSP in the web interface.
  • 400 error when adding a stream parameter: avoid combining videozprofile=storage with the adjustable live stream parameters (adjustablelivestream), known to conflict.
  • Multi-sensor/multi-lens model: add ?camera=1,2… to the path to pick the sensor.
  • Authentication refused: create a dedicated account in the camera interface rather than using the default administrator account.
